Reading Gulzar – Tum Aa Gaye Ho

It is my firm belief that if an intellectual were to declare his love to someone, this is the song that they’d choose.

I’ve come across millions of numbers the sole purpose of which was to declare their love to a member, so far, of the opposite sex; but which invariably end up doing something totally unrelated. And the other person, usually the girl, seems to have such a grand time of it, I frankly think she participates more for her enjoyment than out of any real feelings towards the loon singing so inappropriate a selection of words.

Thankfully, for every million, we have one such saviour. And, as you have no doubt read, at the end of it all, Good does conquer Evil.

Film: Aandhi

Music: R. D. Burman

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar

Lyrics: 🙂

Here goes…

Tum Aa Gaye Ho

Tum aa gaye ho, noor aa gaya hai,

Nahin to charaaghon se lau jaa rahi thi,

Jeene ki tumse wajah mil gayi hai,

Badi bewajah, zindagi, jaa rahi thi…

Kahaan se chale, kahaan ke liye, ye khabar nahin thi magar,

Koi bhi sira jahaan jaa mila, wahin tum miloge,

Ke hum tak tumhaari dua aa rahi thi…

Din dooba nahin, raat doobi nahin, jaane kaisa hai safar?

Khaabon ke diye, aankhon me liye, wahin aa rahe the,

Jahaan se tumhaari sadaa aa rahi thi…

Tum aa gaye ho, noor aa gaya hai,

Nahin to charaaghon se lau jaa rahi thi,

Jeene ki tumse wajah mil gayi hai,

Badi bewajah, zindagi, jaa rahi thi…

There’s no poetry on the silver screen of Hindi cinema like Gulzar’s. If there’s a song you want the words to, please let me know in the comments below.
