There is something about first love. The magical lose of sense, the pure, unadulterated flights of fancy, the audacity of hope, the rebellion from order…

How often do we manage to reach these again?

Since we can’t, we can always listen to this…

Film: Kaminey

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj

Singer: Mohit Chauhan

Lyrics: 🙂

Here goes…

Pehli Baar Mohabbat Ki Hai

Thode bheege bheege se, thode nam hain hum,

Kal se soye woye bhi to kam hain hum,

Dil ne kaisi harkat ki hai,

Pehli baar mohabbat ki hai, aakhri baar mohabbat ki hai,

Aankhein dhobi dhobi si surmai maddham,

Jheelein paani paani hai, bas tum aur hum,

Baat badi hairat ki hai,

Pehli baar mohabbat ki hai, aakhri baar mohabbat ki hai,

Khwaab ke bojh se kapkapti hui halki palke teri,

Yaad aata hai sab: tujhe gudgudana, satana, yoon hi sote hue,

Gaal pe teepna, meechna, bewajah, besabab…

Yaad hai peepal ke jiske ghane saaye the,

Humne gilhari ke jhoothe matar khaaye the,

Yeh barkat Un hazrat ki hai,

Pehli baar mohabbat ki hai, aakhri baar mohabbat ki hai…

There’s no poetry on the silver screen of Hindi cinema like Gulzar’s. If there’s a song you want the words to, please let me know in the comments below.

  1. Oh, this one takes me back to my Pune days, during rainy season. Also, the visit to Khandala in light but continuous rain all images come to mind in a flash :). While listening to this song with closed eyes, somehow I can smell the fresh moisture laden air of those days 🙂
